چکیده

Often, real world business processes are constantly changing and dynamic in nature. These runtime changes may stem from various requirements, such as changes to the goals of the business process, changes to the business rules of the organization, or exceptions arising during the workflow execution. Unfortunately, traditional workflow management systems do not provide sufficient flexibility to accommodate such dynamic and adaptive workflows that support run-time changes of in-progress workflow instances. Moreover, traditional workflow management is accomplished by a single centralized workflow management engine, which may not only be a performance bottleneck, but also unsuitable for the emerging internet-based commerce and service environments where workflows may span many organizations that are autonomous. In this paper, we propose a formal model for a decentralized workflow change management (DWFCM) that uses a rules topic ontology and a service ontology to support the needed run-time flexibilty. We present a system architecture and the workflow adaptation process that generates a new workflow that is migration consistent with the original workflow.

An Adaptive Workflow Engine Based on Web Services and Agents

At present workflow management systems are widely used to manage business processes in an organization, while the workflow engine provides a runtime execution environment, manages the overall processing and execution of workflow instances. One of the major limitations of current workflow engine is the lack of flexibility to support adaptive environments. In this paper we propose an adaptive wor...

Decentralized and Flexible Workflow Enactment Based on Task Coordination Agents

Flexibility and distribution are major challenges of an advanced workflow management system, but have been addressed mostly separately from each other. In this paper, we present an agent-based workflow enactment service which combines flexible and decentralized workflow execution. Every task is coordinated by its own task (coordination) agent which interacts with related task agents by event pa...

Dynamic Object Model and Adaptive Workflow

One of the problems with current workflow systems is their limited support for dynamic environments and evolving product and process models. A 1997 study of trends in workflow management concluded that exception handling (i.e., dynamically modifiable processes) and object-oriented views of workflow definitions deserve “serious attention” from researchers [Moh98]. But why are dynamic models so i...

Contextual Generation of Declarative Workflows and their Application to Software Engineering Processes

Process management can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of process activities by structuring and coordinating their execution. However, its application can become problematic in dynamic environments such as software engineering, since rigidly pre-specified process models are not capable of adequately handling dynamic aspects of the processes. Therefore, this work presents a declarative...
